Good morning, starshine... the Earth says hello

Good morning, Mr. And Mrs. America and all the ships at Sea.

the local time is current 5:52 am as I write this. I went to bed mildle later than I typically do during the week. So instead of naturally waking at 4am I kind of stumbled hrough my snooze bar at 5, 5:09, and 5:18

It is Blogathon day. I will be writing the posts up until about 2 until the half h\our and hitting submit to try to get them online as close to the half hour as I can.

One amusing note... there are pretty much no people I sociallize with locally who will read any of my posts today.

Between the OTO having a campout and OLO hosting Fires of Lughnasadh many of my local readers are away.

So I expect record low comments and record high self involvement..

Pacing myself...

My average thought out post can sometimes take me upwards of 3-4 hours to write. Usually from delays at work and distractions.

Today I am realizing that I need to pace myself. By the time I'd situated myself and responded to one of the comments to my 6 am post.. I noticed.. it was already 6:15 and I figured I really needed to get onto the next one.

So... I expect there to actually be more substance as I get my timing down.

Granted.. it's still morning. So right now between the fuzziness of just being awake recently and distractions of DS9 reruns on the Tivo...

I am not sure I have anything of substance just yet.

ADD and minor distractions...

I'm noticing a level of focus that blogging will require today.

It's very easy for me to get distracted with some little project. Having picked up another sponsor (Thank you)

I tried to do some analysis of the Blog List page at the main site. I started doing my typical data analysis work and realized it was time to start writing another post.

There are actually monitors making sure people actually stay with the process today.

The initial field of 566 has already been peeled down to 527.

So it's going to be an interesting day.

Sadly, when I walk away from a distraction (or find another distraction) it's very hard to get back to the first distraction.

I think jnanacandra once referred to it as "Running in massive parallel process with leaky thread control"

Geek girls... For the record... Amazingly hot.

Granted I think everyone I subscribe to on LJ is a geek in some measure...

Brains == Hot

Damning my brain...

I actually like the idea of disciplining myself to typing today. Many times I've told myself.. that if I had time... I'd write some of my inner thoughts. The strange way that I perceive things and take them apart.

Seeing the big patterns and the complexities of society with a simple framing view.

And yet.. at 7:15 I find my intelligence scanning Wikipedia's entry on MadTV for the name of the cast member I absolutely despised.

I'm still not sure I've been able to find it, even after looking at the complete cast list

Though after consulting the list of MadTV characters.. I've found my bane. "Comedian" Michael McDonald played a character called Stuart. I'm really not going to elabourate on this character beyond the fact that it was the one thing that spoiled an otherwise enjoying sketch comedy show for me.

So there you have it.. The depths of my complex views on the world... Or at least that which I damn my mind for distracting me from the complexities of my thoughts.

And I should put in the obligatory report since the topic had yet to emerge.
jnanacandra and aiden_freeman are both still asleep. Shortly I will plug in the cell phone since I sense that some of my posts today will be audio based as I wrestle and wrangle the child.

Gah... Maybe TV is not the answer for distraction

To keep myself near the computer I may have made an immensely bad choice in using the TV as a distraction. There were just 3 commercials on (7:42)

Each one more offensive than the previous one.

Balls of Fury
Cross "Enter the Dragon" with "Dodgeball". I have honestly no idea. I'm left the question, "Why?" Actually the real question is, "When did Christopher Walken throw in the towel?"

Kia Rondo
There is nothing more personally disturbing than an advertisement for a minivan that uses "Let the Sunshine" as the commercial music. It just sort of makes you feel like... well, you know what it makes you feel like.

eSurance
I had the wonderful fortune of recently answering on online survey expressing my opinion of eSurance. One of my majors in college was Radio and TV production. Two of my classes were in commercial construction/production. The eSurance campaign has annoyed me from day one.

If you haven't seen these commercials (which is nigh impossible due to their ad budget) you aren't missing much. Well, except for the anime special. Anime Special? That's right. The eSurance campaign is a series of anime-like spy adventures. The first bunch of these that I caught randomly while fast-forwarding on my tivo left me wondering what the new anime was that I was missing.

But what annoys me above anything else about these commercials is the fact that all they really say is that they have the lowest rates.

Now... let's remember the basic rule of caveat-emptor. You get what you pay for.

So.. what are you paying for with insurance? You are paying for the right and expediency to get money back in times of loss.

in a world of claim denials and adjusters who are really not looking out for your best interest... Do you really want to pay for a company who's offering the lowest cost as a throw away line in a commercial meant to make you think it's just a flashy cartoon.

Amusingly the survey asked, "Is eSurance a company you feel you can trust?"

I was pleased to have the chance to tell people at eSurance how I felt about their campaign.

This hell was concluded by flipping to MadTV and seeing a routine pop on with Stuart.

The TV doesn't like me.

So the good, the bad and the ugly...

I've been able to keep up with the posting schedule so far. sidhefire asked me to write a story about God. That may be an ongoing project.

I suppose I should ask if this should be a work of fiction (as opposed to the bible which so far is holding the number 1 spot on the fiction list despite the assault of Harry Potter). Or perhaps it should be more of an essay concerning my views.

As mentioned earlier in the week, aiden_freeman has teeth now. And they are growing faster than an Asian bad guy's fingernails in an old martial art flick.

The downside to this is that Diaper time is becoming... well... ugly.

Aiden in the mean time is hammering on the drum that is neither a Djimbe nor a Doumbek. I'm not quite sure what it is, actually. But he's happily pummeling it.

Hmmn, he drools, babbles incoherently, almost has a sense of rhythm and lives off his parents. Yup... Musician.

On the nature of parenthood... AAAAGH

It is difficult to focus on anything for extended periods of time. The boy is pretty much mobile. He will find any item and rip into it. Moments ago I saw him grab a bag of nacho chips that had been on a window sill. He managed to in a period of four seconds pick up the back and shake it.

By the time I was standing and halfway across the room, the bag was inverted and the floor was covered in chips. Everywhere. Of course you look up and the boy has a gleam of pride in his eyes.

It's interesting. Maybe it's because I've changed him at least 400 times (Yes that number is probably an accurate estimation).. but I get surprised when people think that Aiden is a girl. To me.. he's pretty much "all boy."

(stepped away from this post for a moment)

Make that 401. And OMG! I'm so happy we're feeding him 8-{

Unfortunately, all my posts today are to be public

I have the idea for one or two S&F filtered posts I want to write. But unfortunately they do not cover the requirements of the day. Also... while I don't think she's posted it yet... I think jnanacandra may have come up with an amazing idea for next year's Blogathon.

I am contemplating the question of god. Not the big universal.. "I am human" Question of God... the request for today's blogathon.. post about God. it is coming... I just need to chew on it and get it written up.

Later I may have to post by voice. I'm looking for people willing to transcribe if that occurs :)

“So this is one of those Voice Posts, I'm going to make:

Boy has taken to, well, doing something that I guess as a parent I'm going to have to get used to and that is pelvic thrusting. He basically sits there while I'm holding, going eh eh eh. And you just sorta sit there & go, oh please don't do that. Today I had picked him up & he looked at me & he went “aaah.” Nice low buzz. Yes that's right, my boy may also be a bass. I looked at him & I said, ok. Now try this 1, go, “ooh yeah.” At which point he started to pelvic thrust me so, basically at this point I'm gning start enrolling in counseling because I think I've been traumatized for life. This is short Voice Post, not necessarily on the 1/2 hr, so there. Just to see if I can leave 1. Oh, say that again. (shimmeringjemmy: “Ooh, bonus”). Thank you. Additional posting by shimmeringjemmy Bye bye.”

What is God? Um.. to me... (Part 1)

I really love the film version of Jeffrey (having not seen the stage show)

Nathan Lane plays a Catholic Priest (which he defines as somewhere between Altar Boy and Florist). He explains where most get their view of "God"

The Broadway artwork for My Fair Lady.

The big bearded man in he cloud pulling Rex Harrison's strings.

I was raised Jewish. So I got the Jew's eye view of God. (I refuse to use the term old testament as I always preferred "Testement of the God of the Jews, the cheap dime store sequel, and the wrap up to the unintended triology penned by that crazy guy") Granted, the Jew's eye view of God is that God is a scary male, like diety with often impossible expectations and a penchant for temper-tantrums. On the upside, he did say that polygamy was not only recommended but was in fact a blessing. Sadly, he was also way to misogynistic for my tastes... but I was a young twice-a-year Jew (We went to synagogue for Yom-Kippur and Rosh-Hashanna and spent the rest of the year looking forward to celebrating Chanukah (official andrei-english spelling) and suffering thru Passover.)

When you're raised a sort of Reformed-Hassidic-Conservadox Jew (our piety was metered by how close the Rabbi lived to us)... you get a rather warped view of your religion.

Next up... My collegiate disagreement with God. Loopholing bartering my soul to the devil. And Why Wiccanism didn't work for me.

All on the trip down amnesia lane of what makes up my current view of God.

Meta updates and another short inquiry... Facebook

Somehow, I've gotten up to 3 sponsors. Thank you kindly to all of them. One is $2 for each hour I survive. As a result I am nearly at $200 raised for planned parenthood. Which makes me feel kinda fuzzy and happy. Apparently this already puts me in the top quarter of fundraisers for the event.

More over I'm pleased that of the original blogs committed to the process nearly 20% haven't lasted the first 5 hours. I'm not so pleased abut others dropping out.. I'm more pleased that I'm not one of them. This is kinda cool and very much an incentive for me to have better follow-thru.

Before the inquiry, I'd like to take a moment to talk about HELL TOYS

Most of what we buy for aiden_freeman comes from consignment shops. Effectively used toys and clothes. jnanacandra bought a toy for him. It turned out to be a HELL TOY

It is this rolling toy with little balls in it. So it makes a white noise-ish sound when rolled. This is not what makes it a HELL TOY. See, when jarred by a child it plays a digital recording of "The Farmer in the Dell" followed by a childs laugh. It also lights up. That being said.. the jarring sensor is broken. Sometimes it has a hair trigger. And I mean if someone across the room brushes their hair.. it goes off. Other times.... You can place kick it across the room and it doesn't make a sound.

I only bring this up because it is behind the sofa and randomly going off for no reason.

Thus: HELL TOY HELL TOY! HELL TOY

(ahem)

Now for the inquiry. Recently I stumbled (no, really, I don't no how I found the site) upon Facebook. I think it's recently been gobbled up by that acquirer of Web 2.0 Sixapart. (Yes, the same company that convinced brad that it wasn't selling out.)

Anyone else played with this site? Anyone else on it? How did you find it? how do you find it? What do you think of it?

Yes... I am a social networking whore.

And while I don't have your attention.. I'd like to introduce
asphyxi

asphyxi is my blogathon monitor. Her job is to basically report me to blogathon central if I stop posting. (At least that's the impression I get)

Everybody wave ;)

Some notes about the 10:05 extra post

I made a voice post earlier. If anyone is willing to try to transcribe it... It'd be massively appreciated. The auto-transcriber... didn't do too great a job.

I'd do it, but considering the time it'd take and the fact that once I do it, I lock out anyone else from transcribing... it's best that I call for assistance.

The post was about the fact that my nearly 11 month old has discovered pelvic thrusting... To which one of my dearest (and longest termed) friends IMed the following:

FH: Now, say this with me,
FH: "That is something for by yourself."

Me: Is that line about me posting about it, or the line I'm supposed to say to Aiden.

FH: The line you're supposed to say to Aiden
FH: It works with {our daughter}
FH: It slowed her down during the "Hey! That feels good!" phase.

Me: Girls pelvic thrust?

FH: Yep.
FH: It feels good!
FH: Of course they do.

Me: yigh

FH: Why yigh?

Me: The things you just don't expect.

FH: Fortunately, I got a heads up from another mom.
FH: With the wording.
FH: It has worked perfectly.
FH: Otherwise, {she} would still try to do it in public.

Me: Yeah, but I tell him it's for on his own time.. and then I find out I can't get into the bathroom for a week, and his socks start to go missing...

FH: Welcome to parenthood.

not on the half hour extra... Paraphrased Quote

Heard from someone's post on LJ (will update with direct quote and link when I get it)

"Oh no, I can move effortlessly. I am a leaf on the wi--- no wait.. I know how that one plays out. Ahem.. I am a leaf on the water. So there."

What is God? Um... to me... (Part 2)

When I was a kid (and that statement now feels valid)... I had the occasional person use some lines on me that I really wish could be kept away from anyone under the age of 30:

"You have a very old soul"
"You have more power than you could possibly imagine"
"Everyone is special in their own way, but you are going to change the world"
"8th Avenue doesn't come thru to High Street, cut up to 12th"

okay, maybe not so much the last one....

As a result (and the genetic propensity to paranoia from my mother) I always felt there was something more to the universe than droning thru Hebrew and sitting and standing a lot.

Kids in school used to make fun of me. Well there were lots of reasons for that... but it happened for this reason too.

Then college occurred. I went to college in Southeastern, Ohio. We like to refer to that as the worn hole on the bible belt. The nearest synagogue was in West Virginia about 90 minutes away. They used the tambourine. I never really kept kosher to begin with. But at least Kosher was a good excuse to make the college break their Pepsi exclusivity contract..

3 semesters later. My devotion to academia earned me a 6 month hiatus at the dean's request. I returned home and hung out with the Pittsburgh Rocky Horror crew. Thus meeting the previously mentioned dearest friend.

I believe our religious views at that point could be defined in D&D terms. "Chaotic Good"... Maybe "Lawful evil"... maybe "Psychotic Crunchy".... This was about the time that I was introduced to the Tarot. That's right... theatre boy and his cards to tell stories.

I also met my first Wiccan. Well, not really. This was a militant, feminist, Dianic wiccan. She explained to me that Wicca was not the path for me due to my birth defect. (She did in fact use the words 'birth defect' among other elabouration that I'll leave out)

Life was not really that good that spring. High School had been traumatic. Family life sucked, and well, my social circle... not the healthiest thing. I think even FH will look back and say, "Yeah, they/we were really kinda f*#&-ed up" But we did believe through meditation we turned into animals that could fly on the 'astral'.

So, I walked down to the pond deep in Schenley Park (A park that is always FAR BIGGER, than you think) and had a chat with "God" (Who still pretty much had the big beard and bad attitude)

I wanted to know why it was all sucking so hard. I wanted answers. I wanted a sign. I even said I'd consider 'selling the soul' for a sign. I suppose this loopholed on many levels. One... I said "I'd consider" rather than saying "I'd sell". Of course the bigger loophole is with a Jewish upbringing there is also no belief in 'a Hell' or 'the Devil™'... So it was all just empty threats.

None the less. There was no real sign during that time either. But there was individualization. There was also severe crushing on the new friend who'd introduced herself to me by bounding up in this sort of mid-80's goth meets catholic school girl in Doc Martens saying, "Hi, I'm {name). I'm Psychotic!" with a big beaming smile.

I guess I can say that after that spring and the ensuing summer. I knew more of what God wasn't. The beard was gone. The strings were gone. Personally, I think these were the times I got closest to Atheism. There was something... But all the Judaic definitions that seemed rather humanizing were getting stripped away.

I never have shaken the idea that God is singular. But then again, Hebrew school and synagogue tend to pound the "Shema" rather heavily into your head. The Shema is a prayer that is the Hebrew Equivalent of, "WE ARE A MONOTHEISM! GOT IT?!?!?"

So.. that one kinda sticks with me.

What does any of this have to do with God? How I see God?

maybe nothing... maybe everything. But it's what I chose to type... And if you got this far... It's what you chose to read... I have more to tell... And I do have a view of God now. :)

I'm kinda excited now.

Home again, home again, jiggety-jig-jig

Recovering from the outing and the explosion of Cell phone equiptment. Thus causing some frantic posts.

After this one there will be depth and substance... Well.. at least my definition of depth and substance

Andrei in the office
lordandrei

How about some depth...

In some ways I find that I'm fighting off a cynical attitude as I get older. But I think in consideration... it's not really cynicism. I get grumbly based on behaviour and performance that goes against the best course. But I still persevere.

I think inside.. despite my bluster and tendency to rant... I think things will work out in the wash. I think there's still room for faith. Everyday is a day full of unexpected surprises. So despite all the planning and patterns you may see... there's still the chance that someone or something may surprise you.

Step back.. consider the magick and majesty that is life's potential.

Even when you think the guy in charge really just needs to be taken over someone's knee and given a good paddlin' of habeas corpus.

And now I'm hitting that period of tired... Might just have been running the errands.

Next up.. more God postings and if you have any requests for topics, questions, or stuff you'd like me to chat about... leave a comment. Because the comments coming in are definitely what keep me going :)

I also want to make a special shout out to ka3ytl. I have such adoration for her. There are too many reasons to list.. but the one that makes me want to single her out now is the fact that she's been transcribing my phone posts. Please note, that's "posts"... plural. What is God... Um to me... (Part the third)

So, Wendy got herself a crew of ruthless men and brave...

Sorry wrong epic.

This post is dedicated to the massively awesome bioentropy who posted an embed of one of my favourite XTC songs. "Dear God"

Embeded beyond the cutCollapse )

What was even more cool than posting such an awesome video for me was the fact that the video posted is subtitled. Which has been a common problem I have with net video.

So... I returned to college. Was given a Cunningham book of spells. Tried a love spell. It failed. And then went on about a 10 year search of what I believed in. I know I've posted this story a few times. Somewhere in there came hedge magick, chaos magick, and ceremonial magick.

Gods and Goddesses of many pantheons floated before me from history, mythology, and again D&D. I know as a kid I had a thing for Athena. (Don't laugh at the irony)

But at core.. I was monotheistic.

But divinity transcended gender. Gender was something that applied to anthropomorphized gods like the bearded man of my youth. And the goddesses were something I could study and appreciate but never truly touch without burying my gender for another.

So divinity to me became absolute perfection of all things.

Someone asked me how I defined God. I responded... Divinity (as I no longer like the term 'God' for divinity) is the single sum total of all things real and imagined that are, were, and ever could be.

Everything else is an aspect of the One Divine. Gods and Goddesses are anthopomorhised perfectives of aspects. Perfect beauty, perfect war, perfect wisdom... So what is "The God" of "The Goddess"?

Well, down south we used to have a God ritual called, "Pandemonium" (I don't know if they still have it)... Each of the local male magickians would choose a God form, "Thoth, Loki, Zeus, Quetzelcotl, etc"... they'd research the hell out of it. Make a costume and then bring that to the ritual.

At the ritual... Each god would take turns introducing "H"imself. He would explain what he held dominion over, what made him a god and how he was merely one god of "The TRUE God"... There was drumming and dancing. lastly our dear elqahar dressed as pan (dressed as? Hell Full on invoking!) would come out and glorify Pan and glorify the one TRUE God. Behind the altar behind the firepit was a curtain. At the height of invocation the curtain was drawn.

The one True God. The one thing that separated the True God from the True Goddess. A giant, golden 6 foot tall, "Oh look what we made"

Three priestesses (typically mother, maiden, and crone) would dance about it annointing it with Oils, and leaving Roses around it.

And pretty much it broke into a big dance party atmosphere after that. With several embarrassing pictures.

Such is my view of The God vs. True Divinity.

Where to go next after that? Ideas? Comments help!

Administrivia time: filter time for a big audience

i won't make this one of the official Blogathon posts because it'd be cheating in my opinion. Especially since this way leads to filtered posts that are not world viewable and thus not really blogathon valid.

But.. I have added a whole slew of new journals... So before I make 'other' posts... I wanted to add this note again...

Usually, when I make this post, it means I'm intending to (though as is my nature, likely not to follow up with a) post to one of these filtered groups I have.

Unfortunately if you want to be on these filters you have to do 5 things.

1) Have a livejournal account.

2) Go to my Administrivia posting which describes my filters (at least the ones I want people to know about)

3) Check off the ones you would like to be on. (Or off if you're a bored old timer.)

4) Make a comment to that post that you've made selections. (You don't need to say in the comments which ones you've chosen. Actually for privacy, you probably shouldn't. I can read it in the poll) But commenting tells me to look at the poll for your current list.

5) Important: Don't be disappointed if you don't see anything. Some of the filters are used rarely. Some you won't be put on despite asking. (OTO for example requires me to know that you're an initiate.)

Sounds like a lot.. But it keeps me just that inch further away from insanity.

Thanks! **Waves**

Almost at the halfway point

We have just hit 11 hours. And I have to be honest. I'm really amazed that I've made it this far.

I don't usually make comment pleas; but I am today. Interacting with readers and following other blogathon... um .. 'ers have helped give me material to write about.

We're up to 5 sponsors totaling $229 if I make it the full 24 hrs. Sponsorship is open throughout and all the money goes to Planned Parenthood

And yes.. I realize I sound like that annoying bastard who keeps interrupting that really good episode of Doctor Who on the PBS affiliate.

I'm online for most of this on AIM (lordandrei) and am happy to chat and take topic ideas. Looking for my next 'deep' topic.

See you all at 5:30

Something I'd post outside Blogathon

Hot off the news from Comic-con.

Joss Whedon has JUST announced that he will film Ripper next year.

Oh gods yes!

daddy
lordandrei

When fatigue sets in...

Most of today I have spent on the sofa. This feels incredibly lazy.. but it's the best way to focus on writing. I want to write more of depth and value.. but I think I dread the time limit. Once I've gotten a post out.. I want to walk away (or at least around) for a few to feel less than sedentary.

But by the time I settle down... there's only about 8-12 minutes left to write a post. An interesting conundrum. So I'm going to let this one post a hair on the early side and then start working on the next one immediately. Hopefully it will be worth the read.

Again.. the amusing bit being that most of the people I know locally are all at ritual camping this week. And if they aren't.. they probably aren't typical readers of this journal.

On the downside... either something I ate or something I did has caused my ol' allergic reaction to pop up on me. My left foot is a touch on the swollen side and it's slightly painful to walk. Odd timing.

Family status:
jnanacandra is outside watering the ever, front-porch engulfing, garden that she and elocinnuala started. aiden_freeman is along for the ride.

I am still waiting for a replacement battery for my 17" MacBook Pro from Apple because the old one is.... well expanding. (Wow, this too can happen to you)

And the preheat of the oven for tonight's Turkey Loaf has just finished getting to optimal temperature... So.. when next we meet.. it will be the halfway point.

Bored yet? Me neither.

More Whedonesque info from Comic-con

From Joss:

Is up for Big Damned Sequel. They made the Special Edition because people keep buying the DVDs.

Season 8 - When and if is Oz going to come back? Can't say when, but it's not a question of "if." Will happen

90 minute Ripper for BBC. Everybody in the same frame of mind that it should happen and will happen soon. Been talking with Tony Head.

Joss is getting sick and tired of not entertaining us enough, so he wants to do things, like Ripper, that can be done quickly. Lots of creepy things in the back of his brain that he needs to get out.

Franchising is starting to interfere with storytelling. Should be earned, never sought. Universe happens so fast, builds off of the original idea.

Has he ever been approached to do Heroes? It's something he wants to do, but not something he has time to do. The problem is he can't do just a little bit of anything. He has so many things that he needs to say next year, that he just can't risk the time.

Asked to do Numfar's Dance of Shame. He loves us, but he's not going to dance. Audience claps rythmically. No, not going to dance for us, it makes him feel like a monkey.

How does he focus? Some days it's harder than others. He's also the father of two children now, and unlike every other child he's ever met, they're awesome. Wonder Woman was catyclisman. Doesn't have ADD or Narcolepsy. Has twelve clipboards on his walls with everything he wants to do. Have to keep deadlines and priorities, but follow the muse, and work on the project that's calling you right then.

Is working on a short ballet starring Summer Glau. Called "The Serving Girl." Writing music.

Is doing more with Fray. Not sure he was supposed to say that, but "yes."

12 hours and nothing to show for it.

I looked at the blank page and then promptly got pulled into a conversation with someone that I really needed to be talking to. I had some business to iron out.

So... Still working on something of value. Sadly.. even though I am in this for the long run.. There is life. There is baby changing, jnanacandra relieving, dinner prep... you know.. that whole life thing.

And I do choose to live on occasion ;)

Um, dude... We passed $360

When I decided on the whim to do this a few days ago... It was more a test for my own ability.

I really never considered myself a fund raiser. Well... okay.. I'm a good auctioneer.

but promoting for sponsorship.. never crossed my mind.

Later tonight I'm going to post about why I chose Planned Parent Hood (which unto itself might seem easy to guess, but as for why not something else... more difficult)

I've also now picked up sponsorship in both of the other bloggers I've been promoting. And rhiannonstone has broken $500. shadesong is just shy of $3,000 (by about $240)... So definitely check them out.

Dinner has just come out of the oven. Corn on the cob and turkey loaf.

We're also going to watch the latest Doctor Who.

Hurray to rhiannonstone for breaking thru $500... Her next award is at $750

I am thinking I will find a really cool gift for one of my sponsors picked at random when I hit $500.

Watching Doctor Who

First off... I LOVE what they've done with the theme. It is the classic music but with an almost Danny Elfman grind to it.

Awesome.

At the same time.. I am thrilled that aiden_freeman is already a fan.

Doctor Who the new series

I commented separately...

I was such a Tom Baker fan that I resented Peter Davison. Granted I despised Colin Baker... But in retrospect it was the writing and directing.. not the acting.

But I have to admit I adore the new series.

First of all it is completely faithful to the original series. I know that there've been changes with the removal of Gallifrey and The rest of the Time Lords. (or... have they?)

But truth be told, they've learned from 20 years of television for writing. The characters have matured. The writing has matured.

The dynamic between the Doctor and His Companions is more realistic.I think that the episode of "School Reunion" really acted to answer questions that were left ambiguous in the old series.

I have to admit it. I like Eccelston's acting. But he is not among my favourite actors for the Doctor. As a friend from England pointed out, "He's not the Doctor.. He's a Thug"

There was always a built in love of humanity. The 9th Doctor tended to seem to ready to write off the race.

Tennant is marvelous. I loved the relationship he had with Rose. I think it humanizes him while still keeping his unearthly appeal. Tennant is wild and chaotic while still being massively focussed.

I am certain that I love the new series because as much as I don't want to see Tennant leave the series.. I am confident that the team engineering this show will find another actor who will be just as amazing.

So far my only complaint is that they killed Anthony Stewart Head after only one episode.

Just a note for people commenting. I have only seen the Series thru what has aired in the US on Sci-Fi Channel. I do not want any spoilers.

So. Just to end with a list... And I welcome you to do the same:

My order of preference:

1. David Tennant
2. Tom Baker
3. Sylvester McCoy
4. Christopher Eccleston
5. Jon Pertwee
5 1/2 (Special)
6. Paul McGann (Yeah, I know)
7. Peter Davison
8. Colin Baker

I've left Hartnell and Troughton off because I've honestly not seen enough of their episodes to make a fair evaluation.

As for 5 1/2... I have to admit. I adored Rowan Atkinson in the Comic Relief Special:
Doctor Who and the Curse of the Fatal Death.

Blogathon: SHOULD I MAKE AN EXCEPTION?

I have a filter called S&F... This stands for Sex and Fetish.

I know that I may have readers under 18 years of age.

So.. the question is...

Should I post sexual material tonight? It will likely be raw.. adult... And considering most of the people I know are away or sleeping... likely to be utterly ignored.

The posts would be public and prefaced by a warning of the following post. The warning posts would be also place holders because the actual posts will be filtered after the blogathon ends.

These posts would also be after midnight PST.

So.. mateys... what think ya?

You'll see the tallies but voters will be kept private.

What's in a name

(Had this one in the text editor.. almost forgot to hit send)

To keep the bloggers involved (read: awake) the blogathon site has a few games going. Questions to answer.

This half hour:
So many of us give our blogs funky names. Why did you choose yours.

The easy part is Lord Andrei... Despite sounding all BDSM like... it's really because I spent 15 years in the SCA and was given the title Lord. Interestingly, I've been on the net long enough that adding Lord to the less than common Russian spelling 'Andrei' made a handle that is to this day almost always available.

Sure it carries a bit of ostentatiousness and maybe a bit of superiority... but hey.. My journal.. My words.

The interesting this is that Andrei isn't my birth-name. It's the name I chose in the SCA that eventually grew to become my legal first name. And that.. is a story in the archives of my Journal.

Kinda strange...

Just tuned in BE Radio which is basically the Blogathon radio station. They are currently playing the remix of the Time Warp.

In another window is an IRC chat for the Blogathon.... And of course are the blogs.

I am reminded of an evening about 10 years ago at Pennsic War. (Now they are on Saturday Night, by the Bay City Rollers which is a real memory trip)

I was playing Doumbek around camps and was invited to a hafla with some friends. We got there and the place was packed. I mean people were 5 deep into the street around the camp site. Someone spotted me and beckoned me around the side.

He said.. drummer.. you come in through here.

Inside was two tents filled with snacks... We're talking regal catering.

And that was for the drummers. Fruit, chips, drinks, water, seats.

As it turned out.. we were the VIPs. because we played for the dancers and they brought the crowd.

We got wonderful treatment because we were making the thing come together.

Listening to the music being played for the Bloggers in the Blogathon. Watching the chat.

Typing posts. It feels neat.

See you on Sunday :) it's 11:30.
