Caveat: This was posted on my behalf by request by someone who has electronic access to post on my behalf from outside Washington state without my password. I did not actually make this post. But the person didn't have my password so I am not in violation of Washington State Law or LJ Terms of ServiceIf you haven't heard by now, the Washington state gov't rushed thru a law transforming not only any gambling on the internet, but summarily any discussion of wagers or gambling information. By rushed thru I mean January 17 : the law was proposed February 3: Senate Labor Commitee added: knowingly transmitting or receiving wagers or other gambling informationFebruary 14: passed bi-partisan with no opposing votes in the Senate March 2: passed bi-partisan 93-5 in the House (now looping in i-net sales of Lottery tickets) March 28: Signed into law by the Governor. That is 86 days to write and pass a law. Remember that the next time your unemployed worker benefits run out. Just to put it in perspective.. here is what a class C felony is in Washington Bestiality assault on a child in the third degree custodial sexual misconduct in the first degree third degree rape four DUI's in seven years second degree assault sex and labor trafficking unlawful taking on endangered fish and wildlife robbery (1 count) animal fighting abuse. The penalty for a class C felony is: 60 months in prison and a $10,000 fine. You can now add to that: a 25 cent bet on PartyPoker Granted, some might argue the penalty is more appropriate for going "all-in" before the flop with less than a pair of jacks in PartyPoker $5 + .50 tournament. That being said... Doesn't this smack just a little of thought crime and violation of the right to free speech? Edit: Ironically, no one from Washington can actually comment on this post as that would be an example of discussing Gambling in the state and they would be liable for a Class C felony. This is a cross post to a review I made on MacNN the Macintosh news source. -=-=--=-=- From MacNN article: Briefly: Online gambling; FCP users group http://www.macnn.com/articles/05/12/08/online.gambling.fcp.group/In brief: macpacificpoker.com is bringing online gambling to Mac and Linux users, offering games such as Texas Holdem, Blackjack, Craps, Slots, and more....-=-=-=-=-=- My response to MacnnI went to Mac Pacific Poker's site. The mac page auto loaded. Initially I thought this was a good thing. I went to the registration page. I typed in my information and then got to "Terms and conditions." Call me crazy but I actually hit the link to try to look at the terms and conditions. Safari generated a new page which...auto forwarded to the Mac front page. It would seem that all the pages were set to auto forward to a "we don't serve mac" page. So to simplify, the new Mac entry page was put there. As a result, the registration screen will not get you to terms, help, or anything else. So I turned to calling tech support. As online Poker players know... most of this is overseas. After two failed calls (Yes, the calls actually 'failed' insofar as they rand and went dead mid-ring) I got a tech-support grunt. He explained to me any combination of answers that included, "We don't support mac", "The Mac page takes you to the mac page that doesn't have all the features" and my personal favourite, "We don't work on the mac because our pages are made for Normal Computers." I was told that I'd be sent a link that would take me to the correct mac page. (I'm assuming he means the same front page that suddenly makes them "Mac Compatible.") So far I have received no email. To me making your PC application Mac compatible doesn't stop when the application compiles for the Mac. There is tech suppor education, legal documents, and support pages. At this time I would VEHEMENTLY reccommend that you DO NOT invest time or especially MONEY into MacPacificPoker. -Andrei Tags: macintosh, poker, review, support Current Mood: annoyed

This is a poker hand I played today. The rest of you who could care less can punt. :) I'm not posting this to the poker board because; as they say, "Go not to the usenet for council for they will say both yes and no, then yes, no, yes, yes, no, no nazi!" I played an online free table today. 10 players NLHE. A note about free tables online. One, the playing age is usually about 15. Second, people will tend to play anything and at the same time decide that QJ is a great hand. The first hand of the match I was sitting at the seat 2 after the button. This is still relatively early position. The deal to me came 8h8d blind, blind, fold. Hmmn. Okay. Early position middling pairs. I figure I can raise in 4x blinds (raise to 80 at 10/20 blinds) and either fold screaming like a schoolgirl or maybe hit a set. Then something that annoyingly happens on free tables with increasing regularity occurred. The next three players in a row pushed all-in. 1500 each. There was now $4530 in this pot. 5 players fold and its around to me. I really had to stop and think. Normally this is a no brainer fold. But then I thought that people love to go all in with Ace anything to see if they can suck out an all in on the first hand. I figured that I was the only pair at the table. Further, I had it in my head that since there were 3 people all going all in; maybe they'd blocked each others outs. the KQ and QJ block queen outs. I thought, odds to return... it might be worth busting on this free table; because I think I have the best hand... Before the flop I was at 42.4% (I figured 40-45% in my head, the number I've since gone and calculated), I was getting 3:1 on my all in. So that made sense; but the idea of the play style of the table made it seem more likely. Now granted, one of them could have had an over pair. But it seemed unlikely. So... I took the risk and called Sure enough: JQ QA A5; this was absolute perfection The first two canceled a Q out, the second two cancelled an A out. Amazingly, no one played a hand with a King. This we really good when the flop came: 4s Ks Kd Well, everyone had a spade (except me) for anyone to draw the flush, 2 spades would need to fall. My only real concern was the QJ, that one had 3 outs to over pair me with the J. The rest would need to hit from a 2 out pack. Scary but still favourable. I'm now almost 62% Basically there are 7 outs I am trying to duck. The turn brought a diamond (9). The flush draw odds were gone. This brought me to 65%. This card is actually bad for me. Really bad. if the 9 pairs then I am out; JQ are out and A5/AQ chop with Kings and 9s with an Ace kicker. Hadn't thought of that until now. So now I am up to 10 outs against me. The flop handed me a magic 3 (clubs) and I took down 3 players and pulled in a $6030 pot on the first hand. Interestingly against only 2 of them my odds pre flop would have been (43.8, 53.7, 38; The best of which would have been if A5/AQ would have faced off) So... For the experienced lot; I am thinking it was a risk but pot odds, implied odds, and returns suggested it might be worth it. And it did pay off. I'd be curious to hear others comments on this. I don't like to brag. All through high school, I discovered that when ever I bragged about something I'd either lose that something or something bad would happen. That being said, here's some good things that have happened: - I snagged opening night tickets (orchestra, even) for Avenue Q in Las Vegas.
- I won my unemployment appeal and have now been getting back unemployment
- My poker game online keeps improving.
Concerning that last one... I've been playing "Sit and Go" tournaments. Basically 10 people sit down at a table, everyone throws in their X (+ 10%X), they play until only one person has all the chips. For 10 players the standard pay-outs are: - 50% 10*x
- 30% 10*x
- 20% 10*x
I'd been playing $5. What this would mean is that there'd be $50 in the prize pool and the last three places would win: $10, $15, and $25. A couple of days ago, I tried a $30 game. The prizes were (as one would imagine): $60, $90, and $150 Needless to say, when I won the last hand, I was blown away. This link leads to my happy proof of victoryDo I up it more? My poker game has improved over the last few weeks beyond expectations. The last 6 out of 7 times I played at limit tables (either online or in person) I doubled my bankroll within an hour. (The one time I didn't was this afternoon while I was distracted by the movers acting like they might not move the piano) I just played a shorthanded (5 player) No limit tourney. $5 + 0.50 in, $17.50 out. So... like I said... my game is improved. I wonder if it's time to step up my limits again. Best hand of the last 2 weeks: Pocket AA, Flop came down 4AK. Other player was betting into me like there was no tomorrow. My read was that he had either AK or KK, either was a boon for me. The turn came down 9. he kept betting into me. The river... an ace. I checked, he went all in, I called. He had KKKAA, I had AAAAK. It just doesn't get much prettier. That's the dream hand :) Tags: poker Current Mood: pleased

There was nothing to be done. I was 2-1 in chips. I'd gotten KK in the pocket. The person on my left (betting after me) bet in pre flop lightly. I called. Flop: 8 8 8. (I've flopped a full house KK888). The only hands that can beat me are AA or 8x Earlier in the game I'd flopped 4 of a kind. I check, player bets in mildly. standard bet. I call. Turn is a 7. Player moves all in. I call Player shows A8. DAMN Odds wise... I had to. Ah well. Edit: 070517 - Made Public Tags: poker Current Mood: annoyed
