Beware the ides of March... March 15 is an interesting day in my universe. The day holds 2 specific events I contemplate. 1) March 15th is the Anniversary of my paternal grandfather's death. A strange thing to remember on initial glance. My Grandfather Gilbert (for whom I was named loosely in English and directly in Hebrew) died on March 15th, 1968. Exactly 2 1/2 weeks before I was born. My mother was nearly full term with me at the funeral. So I was born with 3 grandparents. And the one that I think may have been the most intriguing to me was Gilbert. (I am from a long line of 'first sons' which in Judaism is somewhat important.) 2) March 15th is the Anniversary of my Minerval degree. The date I first took an initiation through the OTO. This occurred in 1998. Which means I've now been 'in the order' for 9 years. Ironically, I have only lapsed from being an active member for 1 year. This occurred shortly after my 2nd degree. On this I contemplate how I am close to surpass the amount of time I devoted to the SCA (15 yrs) and other odd milestones. I contemplate the changes in who I am and who I was before my time in the order and the things that have occurred. Both to me and the organization. I also think about this day in context of my knowledge of my grandfather and how he might have reacted to my decisions to join the Order. I think he and I would have gotten along very well. But sadly... almost everyone who knew him has passed. (Gilbert is survived by 2 of his 4 sons) As mentioned... I'm also on final approach to my next birthday on March 15. This will be my first birthday with a son. This will be my first birthday with a face full of white hair. This will be my last birthday before I place a 4 in front of my age. Life is odd. Who'da thunk. hmmn. Tags: nostalgia, orientation, oto Current Mood: nostalgic

I'm not really going to go into the weekend concerning the Horizon Oasis officer's retreat. I will summarize by saying it was wonderful, productive, and I have great enthusiasm for the body's direction. I also did a LOT of work with Eleusyve Productions producers on the upcoming Rite of VenusI got home in time to watch the Superbowl. I really had little interest in who won. The first half was good, the second half... well, Sexy Rexy and the Bears kinda collapsed on themselves. But of course... the ads. This year's winner hands down had to be "Career Builder." The monkeys never really worked for me and this years Corporate Grind meets Survivor was stunningly well done. 2nd place goes to Budweiser (whose Bud Light feel-good ads got old) who may have been hit or miss but the King of the Crabs spot was wonderful. Points to Diamond foods for the most surreal moment with Robert Goulet. But a special nod to the challenging of middle America with two very non-standard sexual moments. I believe it was snickers that showed two men kissing. (right near the beginning) but the Bulls-eye had to be an incredibly tame and entertaining Prince mini concert right down to the shadow show of his AMAZINGLY phallic guitar. I just never noticed that in the old "Glyph" and boy did he show it on TV. Interestingly... no news agency has commented on this. So... quiet Superbowl. Good, productive weekend. Long week ahead. Hopefully more soon. Tags: media, oto, personal, superbowl, weekend Current Mood: pleased Current Music: quiet

When I troll for comments, it never works and when I don't look for comments... they pour in. Having mixed the pot to confuse people. IF is no longer coming. IF IS Our local magickal group performed a dedication ritual to actually move toward being an OTO body. The first stage is to be acknowledged as a Camp in Formation. Last night the 5 active initiates in our working group officially took this step. IF is a reality. While the website is temporary while we ramp up... I was riding the Boston Light Rail today into downtown to meet a friend for lunch. A youngish (c. 25y) guy gets on and looks at me. I am wearing: Black slacks, black shoes, a purple button down shirt and a leather vest. (Yes, I have a new one!!!) I am also wearing my new silver OTO lamen necklace. After a minute he looks at me and asks, "Do you practice ceremonial magick?" Amused, I say. Yup. The necklace was probably a giveaway. He looked but couldn't figure out which group it was. I said, "O.T.O." His eyes lit up and like a 10 year old demonstrating her new long word the guy said, "Right... Ordo Templi.... Orientis." I smiled and like a game show host said, "That's correct." We talked briefly about the OTO's growth over the last few years, his interest in Crowley's material, and the local Boston group. (I gave him KTO's URL). He commented he was at his stop and thanked me. As he got off he turned back and said, "Oh... um... Nighty-Three!" and went on his way. I looked at my riding companion and said, "Happens to me all the time." She knew this was a blatant lie and we laughed about the experience. None the less... you know....really cool! It's 9:15 am. the girls are still quite unconscious. This is to be expected after our wild night of driving... Hmmn, not so wild. I remember car... road... more road... It was a lot of driving. We got on the road yesterday at about 10:30 am. Minor delays caused by morning, hormone surprises adn the usual pre-trip disorganization prevented our planned 9am departure. 9 --> 522 --> 405 We stopped off at the Arby's off Exit 2 on 405 almost to the Airport. They managed to mess up shimmeringjemmy's order of "A number 7." This is why I never order fast food by the number anymore. 405 --> 5 From there a straight shot to royalbananafish in Portland. We hit there about 2 pm. The goal was to get to her by 12:30pm... So we were at least traveling at the speed we wanted. shimmeringjemmy drove from Portland to Eugene and then I took over until about Medford. We had a lovely dinner at Red Lobster and then I learned how you can't buy Pseudophedrine in Oregon. Grymble. more 5 royalbananafish took over driving after dinner. We got to see how the Prius handled mountain climbing and got all the way to Redding, CA. We settled in at Red Lion. this is a chain I'd not previously heard of. What was cool was that they took my Alaska Air card and my AA card and got us two Queen sized beds in a non-smoking room with free wi-fi for an AMAZING price. So, (since this has been slow typing) it's coming up on 10am. The girls... still asleep. Today we head for L.A. The trip has been on a sort of time frame. So there hasn't been "Stop and socialize time" If there are people along the trip for the way back... maybe it would be possible. Go ahead and comment here and we'll try to have a rough idea of where we may be when. It's pretty much... hop on 5, get off 5. So.. waves to all...
